Xiăng 想 (to miss, to want, to think about, to wish)
Resin & acrylic
10 x 6 in. each
2021
Xiăng (想) has always been a fascinating character to me, as it holds several meanings depending on its context; it can mean to miss, to want, to think about, or to wish, yet all of these alternate meanings bear a sense of yearning and longing. To capture the essence of the character and all of its meanings, I created six sheets of resin, each with an iteration of the character in progressively illegible forms. The sheets are initially presented stacked upright, giving the viewer initiative to remove each layer one by one to reveal how the character's form gets more and more lost to the resin.
